5 Tire Maintenance Tips That Can Save You Money

By, 2018-09-03

Tips for tire maintenance

Car owners usually care about certain parts of the car, such as the engine, the transmission and the battery, but they neglect other parts, such as tires. Do you remember the last time you have maintained your tires? Like all other parts of the car, tires need maintenance as they are the main segment of the vehicle and any damage may result in serious consequences.

But maintenance may cost a lot of money! Do not worry, follow these tips to keep your tires last for a long time:

1. Rotate Your Tires

This helps to lengthen the life of the tire and not to divert quickly and save money that can be spent periodically to change tires. For example, in front-wheel-drive vehicles, the pressure on the front tires is much greater than that on the rear tires. Tire switching reduces pressure on the front tires and makes the pressure equal to all tires and vice versa. You can switch tires in the following ways:

  • The front tires with the rear.
  • The right front frame with the left rear and vice versa.
  • The front and rear frames with the left.

2. Prioritize the Pressure

It is important to check the tire pressure level especially when traveling for long distances. Tire pressure affects the vehicle's operation and fuel consumption as the proper tire pressure helps in reducing fuel consumption and smooth movement. It also saves tires from being damaged.

You can know the appropriate pressure for your car tires through your car's manual or on the fuel tank door.

3. Tire Wear Tread Depth

Many car owners do not know how to check tire tread level, which often occurs due to overload, tire friction with road and high heat. You can notice the tread in the tire by observing the change in the thickness of the frame and the erosion of the outer layers of it.

The driver can measure the depth of the tires easily by using a coin. If the edge of the coin disappeared completely, this means that the tire limit recommended by the tire manufacturer has not been expired and it can still function securely in the car. But if the depth of is more than that, this means that the frame is expired. Therefore the tires must be replaced quickly.

4. The Axel

All cars without exception contain an Axel which is connected to brakes, steering wheel and tires. If the axle is skewed or changed, your vehicle will not work properly. The function of the axle is to maintain the vehicle's stability and work in the best possible way. So make sure it works perfectly.

5. Tire alignment

Keeping the tire balanced makes it last longer. If you feel that the wheels while driving are unstable and turn left or right or there is a vibration, make sure to adjust the tire balance so that tires do not broke down quickly.
