How to Unlock your Car without Keys!

By, 2019-02-02

Have you ever lost your keys or locked them inside the car?

A spare key is one of the important things that people never seem to have until they need it. If you have ever lost your keys, or locked yourself out of your car, you know how hard and stressful it can be trying to get your door open.

So how would you open your car door without a key?

Here are few methods to unlock your car without key:

Unlocking an Automatic Lock

Having an automatic lock is an effective way to unlock your car without key. Use a wedge tool to create a space between the car’s body and door. If the auto lock is located on the armrest of the driver’s side, you can activate it by just pressing with a thin metal rod. If the button is on the central console, attach a hook at the end of the tool or use a clothes hanger to reach the lock.

Use Your Shoestring

It may sound like a funny thing, but you can unlock your car door in just 10 seconds by using your shoelaces. It is important to know that this method only works on locking mechanisms that unlock by pulling up.

You will need to tie a small loop in the middle of the shoelace that, when placed around the locking mechanism, can be tightened. Work the string into the interior of the car through space where the door meets the car's exterior, hook it around the lock, tighten the loop, and pull the string up.

Unlock the door by entering through the trunk

You can get inside the car easily through the trunk if the car has a manual lock. Open up the trunk and push the rear seats forward until there is an opening spacious enough for you to crawl inside. Then, you can manually open the car’s door.

Remember that you are using a tool to unlock your car without key; you may need to try for a couple of time. Be careful not to damage the weather stripping or scrape the window glass along the way.

Use a Strip of Plastic

Experts recommend you to use a plain old piece of plastic to get the door open. It is pretty much just a long plastic strap, which is bent in half and slid through the crack of the door. A set of plastic wedges would also work.

This method works for the pull-up type locks or any unlocking mechanism inside the car that you can trigger with a stick, rod, or access tool.

Unbolting with a Slim Jim

A Slim Jim is a thin metal strip used for unlocking car doors. You can insert the tool into the passenger-side door because the driver’s door has more wires. Push the Slim Jim through the weather stripping and use its hook-like end to clasp the inside of the locking mechanism (which is underneath the locking pin). Once the hook firmly grips the lock, pull it up to disengage the lock.It is necessary to be expert in opening a locked door with this tool. In addition, it is more likely to tear the door’s weather stripping and the wires inside.

These are the best 5 methods you could potentially make when your keys are locked inside your car.

If you have a habit of locking yourself out of the car, you should have a spare key or you can buy a set of wedges or an inflatable wedge, and long reach tool depend on what type of locks your car has. So make sure to check that against the methods above before buying anything. Also, make sure not to keep it in your trunk!
